CREATIVE PHILOSOPHY
Photography has something in common with poetry.
Photography has something in common with poetry. Neither needs to say everything. What stays with us is often what remains unexplained.
I am less interested in a pose arranged for the camera than in what happens after people stop preparing for it: a hesitant glance, an instinctive move closer, the pause after a sentence ends. The things that matter often happen quietly and without warning. For me, photography is a way of leaving evidence of those unplanned moments.
The filmic quality I value is not about nostalgia, but about a way of seeing. Color can hold something back. Not every detail needs to be accounted for, and an image does not have to be polished clean. Grain, imperfection, and a certain sense of distance allow a photograph to return from image to memory.
Styles, clothes, and fashionable poses all change with time. What I hope remains is something simpler: who these people were then, how they moved toward one another, and how that part of life once unfolded. Perfection, in the end, is rarely what time remembers.
